Director’s Corner
We’re deep in the holiday season and with the holidays we often fall back on traditions and rituals. I am slowly learning about the traditions within our senior activity centers. We celebrated Thanksgiving with our tradition of a Thanksgiving meal and will do the same on December 15th to celebrate the December holidays of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza.
Many of our traditions I’m figuring out and I’m sure there are a number that I am not aware of or are unable to get started again right away like giving out Hershey bars on the last Friday of the month for birthdays. We will get back our birthday chocolate in January. You might be getting ready for your own traditions this holiday season. My son will be coming home for the holiday this year and I am thinking of all the things we did around the holidays when he was young and what we will do now that he is an adult. The list isn’t long but stockings for sure, shrimp cocktail (although this is a tradition from my own childhood), peppermint bark, double stuffed baked potatoes, walking Canyon Road in Santa Fe and playing Phase 10. What traditions will you be continuing this holiday?
Whatever your traditions, know that my staff and I are grateful for all of you and wish you a Happy Holiday and New Year!
See you in 2024.
