Director’s Corner - March 2024
Spring is just around the corner but you know the New Mexico weather, we could be in for more snow any day through April. So to beat the winter blues and get ready for spring I have a two big announcements. Drum roll please!
In December and January I put in for two grants for our Senior Activity Centers and guess what? We got them! The first grant was from N3B to offer an Alzheimer’s Awareness Weekend with Actor/Author Samuel Simon. Sam was diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer’s a few years ago and decided to share his experience with being diagnosed and living with the diagnosis. He has created a one man play called, Dementia Man: An Existential Journey (www.dementiaman.com). Sam will be sharing his award winning play with us on Friday, June 21st. On the 22nd he will offer a “Write Your Story” workshop for those living with Alzheimer’s. Stay tuned for more information.
The second grant was awarded to us from 100+ Women Who Care. We received funds to support our low vision community in Los Alamos by purchasing a number of low vision games (including BINGO cards) and offering a low-vision game day at our centers. We will also have a low-vision fieldtrip to the Opera this summer. These are the parts of the job that make my heart swell. If you have ideas for grants please connect with me. Let’s keep this ball rolling.
