Volunteers Are the Backbone of this Organization by Susan Gallegos

Sometimes there is a moment in life where we do not realize the impact actions can have on another human being. Our RSVP Quilters make the most beautiful quilts and their dedicated work is shared with so many. Recently I had the honor of taking 30 lap quilts to the Sombrillo Memory Care Unit. As the gift bags made there way into the building every employee was standing outside watching and pitching in.

One staff member said, “You have no idea how much these mean to our residents”. In the memory care unit we watched the residents get the biggest smiles and snuggle with the Quilts. It was a joy to watch. Thank you to our amazing Quilters for the love you put into your work, and for sharing with people you don’t even know. This embraces the true meaning of volunteering.

You don’t have to be a quilter to volunteer. There are many ways to volunteer at the center, here are just a few:

  • New Member Ambassador

  • Front desk volunteer

  • Lunch set-up/serve/clean-up

  • Kitchen clean-up help

  • Lunch ticket taker

  • Medical appointment driver off the hill

  • Homebound senior companions
