Director’s Corner May 2025: Flip the Script on Aging

A celebratory note on aging from LARSO Director Jacci Gruninger

As we celebrate Older Americans Month this May, I am excited to embrace this year’s theme: “Flip the Script on Aging.” As we step into our next 25 years, we have a lot to strive for here at LARSO. We want society to change how it sees and discusses aging. We want to challenge stereotypes and dispel misconceptions surrounding older adults, highlighting the incredible contributions and vibrant lives many continue to lead.

Our activities focus on staying active, seeking new adventures, learning, and engaging in meaningful connections and pursuits. At our Senior Activity Centers, we believe every day is a chance to learn, grow, and inspire one another. Together, we explore activities that promote wellness, creativity, and lifelong learning.

During these next two months, I encourage you to come dance to Big Band Music, celebrate Science Fest with a second year of the Science of Tea (this year’s theme is the Boston Tea Party), come hear students from the Taos Opera Institute share their voices, find resources and information at our Health & Wellness Fair, and so much more!

As we honor the countless contributions made by older adults, let us embrace the spirit of purpose, exploration, and connection that can characterize this stage of life. Your stories, wisdom, and engagement are invaluable, and I encourage each of you to fully participate in our upcoming events.

Thank you for being an essential part of our Senior Activity Center. Here’s to a month of positivity, engagement, and fun as we flip the script on aging!
