PEEC & LARSO to collaborate on an Outdoor Equity Listening Forum
Outdoor equity is the belief that all individuals regardless of age or income should be able to experience the outdoors in a way that is safe, welcoming, convenient, affordable and culturally relevant.
The National Institutes of Health indicate that, “Physical activity (PA) provides health benefits in older adults. Research suggests that exposure to nature and time spent outdoors may also have effects on health. Older adults are the least active segment of our population, and are likely to spend less time outdoors than other age groups” Results from a recent NIH study indicated that lack of physical activity and outdoor time were significantly related to depression, fear of falling, and self-reported physical functioning.
Seniors who spend time outdoors may experience less depression and anxiety.
PEEC and LARSO are collaborating on an Outdoor Equity Listening Forum to hear how our two organizations both individually and together can improve outdoor equity through programming and activities for our Los Alamos older adults.
Please join us, Thursday, December 7th from 12:30-1pm at the Betty Ehart Senior Activity Center to share your thoughts. Coffee and dessert will be provided.
If you have questions, contact PEEC at (505) 662-0460 or LARSO at (505) 662-8920.
