Director’s Corner- April 2024

Director's Corner- April 2024

We’ve done it again! This month we received a $4000 grant from the Aging Long Term Services Department (ALTSD) to support the purchase of small equipment for our kitchens. I’m excited to see what Chefs Stephen and Keith decide they need. Any guesses? Send them my way and next month I’ll share what they decided (director@losalamosseniorcenter.com).

Spring is finally here (at least according to the calendar) and the days are getting longer. Personally I wish we had longer daylight all year round. I don’t know about you, but I feel more energized at the end of the day if the sun is still out.

What are some of your springtime rituals? I do a weekly fast most months but in spring I add some different foods into my diet - foods that are more astringent like arugula, sprouts, avocado and broccoli. I also start to lighten my diet from the heavier, winter comfort foods. I try to move my walking from inside (treadmill or WALK app) to outside.

Spring cleaning is always a big one for folks. Maybe you’d like to take advantage of our Spring Fundraiser. On April 27th, bring any or all of the following to the Betty Ehart Center at 10am and we’ll donate it to SAVERS in Santa Fe. The Centers receive a donation by the pound. Help us, help you. It’s a win win.

We need the following:

  • 200 or more garbage bags of soft stuff

  • 60 or more boxes of knickknacks

  • 60 or more boxes of media (books, dvds, vhs, records, etc.)

Get started with your spring rituals today. If you’d like to drop stuff off at the Center, please call 505-662-8920 to let us know. AND…if you have a truck or trailer and could spare some time that day we need six drivers to take the items to Santa Fe.

Sending Spring thoughts your way.
