Director’s Corner 2023

Four months and looking froward. Before I left on my fabulous trip to Norway, many jokingly (or maybe not) asked, “you're coming back, right?” While I’ll admit I used Norway to not think about work, I was excited to come back and continue the work of rebuilding, rebranding and making our Senior Activity Centers a hub for all seniors in Los Alamos and White Rock.

In September many of you came out to share your ideas and thoughts about our Centers at our town halls - thank you. Know that I am always open to hear your ideas and concerns. I want our centers to be places where you not only challenge yourself to learn new things, find health and wellness and grow but where you also encourage me to challenge myself, the staff and the center. We are moving forward intentionally with ideas for classes and workshops to help our older adults both in the center and in the community thrive. It is a continual process and journey. Thank you for coming along for the ride. I’d like to send a SHOUT OUT to my staff. Coming into this job down eight staff positions hasn’t been easy. Some days it’s been more of a bumpy than smooth road. I’m happy to say we are now almost fully staffed. And, as half of us are new, we are all learning together. Next time you see a staff member thank them for all the hard work they have been doing to keep the Centers operating. This is not an easy task. (And, if you know someone who would like to be a full or part-time driver or case manager, please send them our way).

Here’s to a Fall of intention, kindness and community.

Jacci
