National Senior Citizens Day
In 1988 Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States, signed a proclamation declaring August 21 as National Senior Citizens Day.
A key part of the proclamation reads: “For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate our gratitude and esteem by making sure that our communities are good places in which to mature and grow older—places in which older people can participate to the fullest and can find the encouragement, acceptance, assistance, and services they need to continue to lead lives of independence and dignity.”
Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization is pleased continue the tradition of celebrating our older adults and elders on August 21, 2024 at both Senior Activity Centers.
At the LARSO Board of Directors meeting on July 18, 2024, the board approved an updated mission and vision for our organization to guide how we serve the older adults of our community.
Our Vision: We reimagine aging so that our older adults realize how important they are to the vitality of our communities.
Our Mission: To promote positive living in Los Alamos County for older adults.
